You may have been wondering why pre-orders for Hitman were being cancelled earlier this week.
Well, it turns out that Square Enix and IO Interactive have decided to adopt a new release structure that will result in a 'truly episodic AAA game experience'.
"We decided to take the full leap and publish Hitman as a truly episodic game experience," studio head Hannes Seifert said in a statement.
"Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a Hitman game."
He added: "But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future.
"This is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games."
What to Read Next
Hitman is still on track to debut on March 11, though it will now launch with only a Prologue mission and a Paris location.
The next location - set in Italy - will be released in April, followed by Morocco in May.
Monthly content updates will then be made available, including three additional locations - Thailand, the US and finally Japan.
The first 'Intro Pack' is priced at £11.59 ($15), while each subsequent location will go for £7.99 ($10) as an add-on item.
Meanwhile, the disc version of the new Hitman game won't be available until the end of this year.
