Jon Hamm explains Red Nose Day to US viewers in an all-new television advert.

NBC will adapt the UK's biennial charity telethon to the US this May, and has launched the promotion with a sketch directed by Judd Apatow.

Hamm introduces the concept to US viewers in an exasperated manner by delivering a slightly-confusing story about people helping one another in times of need.

Red Nose Day was launched by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry to aid disadvantaged people around the globe.

The event has been promoted in the UK in conjunction with Comic Relief, which has aired telethons hosted by Robin Williams, Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg in the past.

Red Nose Day has raised in excess of £950 million ($1.4 billion) in the UK over the last 30 years.
