Zachary Quinto and Brian Cox have been cast in NBC's new miniseriesThe Slap.
The eight-episode domestic drama, based on a novel by Australian author Christos Tsiolkas, examines the repercussions for a group of friends after one person slaps another's child at a barbecue.
Quinto is to play Harry, the married father of a 15-year-old son, while Cox will star as Manolis, the good-natured patriarch of the leading family.
They join Peter Sarsgaard and Mary-Louise Parker in the cast.
Brothers & Sisters creator Jon Robin Baitz is writing the script and the series will be directed by Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right).
The Slap was previously adapted as an Australian miniseries in 2011.
