The View co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy have explained their departures from the show.
ABC today (July 7) aired its first live episode of the talk show since the pair confirmed their exits earlier this month.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked Shepherd and McCarthy to address "the giant neon pink gorilla in the room".
McCarthy explained her departure first, saying: "After much consideration, I've taken a new job that will allow me to do what I do best, which is to talk without interrupting anyone. So stay tuned… even if it does compete with The View."
Shepherd then gave an emotional speech, saying that she has known about her departure since spring but did not speak out because she "didn't want to do anything to distract from [former host] Barbara Walters and her retirement in May".
She added that she feels the time is right to depart the show because July is the seventh month of the year.
