Tina Fey has insisted that the popularity of her Sarah Palin Saturday Night Live impersonation did not help to boost ratings on 30 Rock.

Writing in her new book Bossypants, the writer and comedian explained that 30 Rock's core audience has remained the same since its inception and has not changed despite the attention received by her parody of the former Alaskan governor and vice-presidential candidate.

"Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show," she said. "I am proud to say you are wrong. My TV show still enjoys very low ratings.

"In fact, I think the Palin stuff may have hurt the TV show. Let's face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain 50% of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters."

Fey previously confessed that she owes Palin a lot and credited her impression with putting her on the map.

Tom Hanks was recently confirmed for a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of 30 Rock.
