Lethal Weapon star Keesha Sharp has revealed that the show was originally axed after Clayne Crawford's departure.
Crawford, who played co-lead character Martin Riggs, was fired following his allegedly intimidating on-set behaviour and was unofficially replaced by Seann William Scott for season 3. Previously leaked audio also revealed a tense confrontation between Crawford and Damon Wayans, who plays Roger Murtaugh.

But before Scott joined, Sharp (who plays Trish Murtaugh) said that she was told the show was done.
"I won't get into specifics, but I will say that the network and the studio did not make this decision lightly," she told Digital Spy, when asked about Clayne Crawford's exit. "It's crazy to me that people think any actors would have anything to do with such a huge, huge decision.
"The show was cancelled. I got a phone call. The show was cancelled after they were going to release him for reasons that they felt were justified in terms of behaviour they didn't want to continue to deal with.

"And so, for them to make that decision, it wasn't easy. We had a number one show, and it was hard for the Lethal Weapon family to deal with it, and especially not wanting to talk about it in public and hurt anybody."

Sharp added that she's not interested in discussing what went on behind the scenes in any detail because Crawford was part of the family.
"You just don't talk about another family member," she said.
"That being said, it's been hard. It's been hard to see so many lies being told about the cast. But we're still going to keep quiet about that and keep it positive, because I think light and love will be the thing to silence any kind of darkness.
"I will say, it was hard and we've moved on, and we're happy that the show found life after Riggs. It's been a blessing to be able to continue."
Lethal Weapon continues on Tuesdays at 8/7c on FOX. The series airs on ITV in the UK.
