Lethal Weapon's third and final season has finally landed a UK air date, with the show hitting screens later this month.

The show wrapped up its US run last autumn, but was later axed in May of this year. The news came after a string of controversies surrounding its cast members.

UK viewers will get to see the season 3 premiere on Friday, July 26 at 9pm on ITV, which introduces Seann William Scott's Wesley Cole.

A few months ago, US broadcaster Fox's CEO Charlie Collier opened up about the decision to cancel the series, admitting that it was a "tough" call.

"In the quest to be number one, you have to make tough choices, and Lethal Weapon was unfortunately on the other side (of the bubble)," he said.

Collier was also asked whether behind-the-scenes drama was the reason for the decision, though said it was driven by "the commitment to try to keep growing and invest in the future".

Former star Clayne Crawford was fired from the series last year following alleged intimidating on-set behaviour, and was replaced by Scott in season 3.

Leaked audio later emerged of a tense confrontation between Crawford and co-star Damon Wayans, and more drama ensued when the latter said he himself was quitting – though creator Matt Miller said he was "hopeful" Wayans would return.

Lethal Weapon aired on Fox in the US and returns on Friday, July 26 on ITV at 9pm in the UK.
