Lethal Weapon has had a lot of behind the scenes drama between its second and third seasons, but things seemed to eventually calm down as season 3 began airing.

And then star Damon Wayans announced that he would be quitting at the end of this year.

Before he goes though, the show is getting some additional episodes, presumably to act as a send-off for his character Murtaugh.

As reported by Deadline, season 3 is now going to consist of 15 episodes, as opposed to the originally ordered 13.

The publication states that the people behind the show had no idea of Wayans' plans to depart the show until he made the announcement, and since then they have entered into talks with him about doing more episodes.

In his original leaving announcement, Wayans put the decision down to juggling his career, family and health concerns relating to diabetes.

What to Read Next

According to Deadline, producers have now worked out a schedule that would not impact his health, and have also organised for special diabetic meals for him on set too.

The changes mean that Wayans is apparently now also open to the idea of appearing in a fourth season of the show if it gets ordered, although we don't know in what capacity. Maybe episodes 14 and 15 of season 3 will serve to reduce his role in the show? We'll just have to wait and see.

Season 3 saw Seann William Scott join as one of the lead characters, following the firing of Clayne Crawford, while Paola Lázaro had been cast as "the female Martin Riggs".

Lethal Weapon airs on Fox in the US and ITV in the UK.
