The royal row between Princess Diana and her ex-husband Prince Charles will be turned into the next season of producer Ryan Murphy's Feud.

What to Read Next

Like his hugely successful American Horror Story and American Crime Story show, each season of Feud tells a self-contained story - in this case about a notorious real-life rivalry.

The first season of Feud is about the infamous grudge between Hollywood legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, but it looks like Ryan Murphy wants to go royal next year.

FX announced on Tuesday (February 28) that the infamous breakup of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage - and the tabloid scandal that followed over Charles's relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles - will form the basis of the next Feud cycle.

It's an interesting choice since The Crown writer Peter Morgan is also planning to dramatise the rise and fall of Charles and Diana's marriage in a future season of his own uber-expensive Netflix series.

Of course, the aftermath of the couple's divorce and the tragic 1997 death of Diana in Paris have already been brought to the big screen in Peter Morgan's film The Queen - which won Dame Helen Mirren an Oscar.

For his part, producer Ryan Murphy continues to mine real-life scandals for his anthology dramas following the success of American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson last year.

He already has three seasons of American Crime Story in the works based on Hurricane Katrina, the murder of designer Gianni Versace and the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal - whereas American Horror Story will tackle the 2016 US presidential election (without directly including Trump).

The first season of Feud - starring Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis - premieres on Sunday, March 5 on FX in the US.
