You might not expect one of cinema's most celebrated directors to take a lot of notice of kids' TV shows, but it turns out Woody Allen was once a keen viewer of the Disney Channel, even if it was just for casting purposes.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Allen discussed how he joined his children in watching Hannah Montana and it led him to reach out to its star Miley Cyrus, who's the lead in the director's upcoming Amazon Prime comedy series.
"I met her for this project," Allen said of his introduction to Cyrus. "I noticed years ago that my kids would be watching Hannah Montana. And I would say, 'Who is that girl? She's got such a good delivery'.
"Then she emerged as a singer," Allen continued. "Someone showed me a little clip of hers from Saturday Night Live, and I said, 'It confirms what I always thought about her: She is very good, she is really a talented girl'."
The yet-to-be-titled series will have a limited run on Amazon Prime, with each episode clocking in at 30 minutes according to the director.
If Miley's performance is anything like the comedy magic we've seen from her SNL work, we know we're going to be hooked.
