Did that really happen?

The latest episode of HBO's The Leftovers delivered its biggest WTF moment yet this season, as it seemingly killed off its biggest character.

In the closing moments, a desperate Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) resorted to Virgil's plan in a bid to vanquish Patti Levin (Ann Dowd) from his life. Only, it went very differently from what was expected.

Kevin drank the poison, but Virgil made no attempt to revive him, leaving him to die instead. And then Virgil shot himself in the head.

There's been a tonne of speculation on whether Kevin will be resurrected (Michael dragging his body away seemed to be a tease) or if he might be seen in hallucinations going forward. But one thing seems to be for sure: that wasn't the last we've seen of Kevin.

"It's possible you'll see more of me in a couple of iterations, but that's all I'll say," Theroux told Variety.

On Kevin's decision to trust Virgil, the actor added: "It's a move of desperation.

"He wants the cure quickly, whatever that is. He's not willing to admit he's his father. He's not willing to go to a psychiatric facility and take medication and nuke himself. It is drastic times, so drastic measures.

"Why he has such faith in Virgil, I don't know. Whether Virgil's clairvoyant or not, Kevin believes he's got something from their encounter in the visitors centre in the first episode."

The Leftovers continues on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
