FX's Adults is coming back for its second season with a host of new guest stars including a Stranger Things fan favourite. All eight episodes of the show's second season will land on FXX on-demand and Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally on Thursday 27 August.

Dubbed by some as Gen-Z's answer to Friends, Adults follows five twenty-somethings in New York living in one of the group's childhood home. The series sees them navigating love, work, friendship and family, while leaning on each other for support.

Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele, make up the friend group, with Daredevil star Charlie Cox appearing in season one as Mr Teacher.

Season two will see Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin from Stranger Things) guest star alongside, Susie Essman, Raven-Symoné, Jake Shane, Isaac Powell, Ben Marshall, and Zosia Mamet.

Per Variety the upcoming season's synopsis reads: "What if the 20-year-old who inherited your fake ID is cooler than you ever were, and younger than you’ll ever be again? How do you explain to your friends that you actually love your boring office job?

"Why does being around your family make you regress into your worst self? And how do you ask for things to change, when you also need everything to stay the same?

"Together, the friends weave intricate webs of multi-player strategy just to avoid hurting someone else’s feelings. They invent elaborate workarounds for problems they’re too afraid to face head-on.

"It’s not so much that they keep learning the same lessons – it’s that they keep finding new ways to make mistakes. But the one thing they consistently get right: showing up for each other."

Season one of Adults received mostly mixed reviews, with the New York Times writing: "While it seems unlikely to become a generation-defining sensation, once Adults finds its groove, it is perfectly diverting TV."

Pajiba.com wrote: "It’s a quick binge, and frequently hilarious, if you can get past the existential haze and the gnawing feeling that everyone should take a shower and clean their goddamn house."

While IGN said of season one: "Without strong comedic chops, the plots mostly devolve into confusing, sometimes frustrating moments that appear contrived for shock. The season’s third episode, however, points to a clever comedy itching to rise to the surface."

Adults is streaming on Disney+. In the US, the series airs on FX.
