Best Medicine, the "quirky" remake of Doc Martin, is now available to watch in the UK. Although the action has moved across the Atlantic, fans of the beloved ITV series can still spot Martin Clunes in a cameo role.

The series sees Josh Charles portray Martin Best, a brilliant doctor who moves from a prestigious hospital in Boston to a private practice in Port Wenn, a quaint fishing village in Maine.

Dr Best has memories of the place from childhood holidays, but his brusque personality is often at odds with the local community. He soon gets in their good books, however, as he looks into several mysterious health conditions that are affecting various people.

Created by Liz Tuccillo, the series boasts a stacked cast, with Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Cree and Annie Potts appearing in supporting roles. Clunes, meanwhile, plays Dr Best's father.

Pajiba was also full of praise, writing: "In an era when national crises dominate our attention, Best Medicine reminds us that there's still value in stories about the people and places right in front of us."

"On the whole, it's cuter, milder, more cuddly (multiple vomit jokes notwithstanding), more obvious and more whimsical, but less real, less intense and less sharply written than Doc Martin," remarked The Los Angeles Times.

The Boston Globe wrote: "They're caricatures, not characters... Best Medicine certainly doesn't deify small-town life; nor does the show condemn it. Instead, it amps up the quirk factor as high as it can go."

Best Medicine airs on Sky One and streams on NOW.
