Constantine might have escaped the axe if it had been on cable - that's according to showrunner David S Goyer.
Dropped by NBC after 13 episodes, the comic book adaptation was on "the wrong channel", Goyer said.
"In retrospect, I don't think it should have been on NBC," Variety quotes him as saying. "I think it was the wrong channel and I'm sure they probably agree with that as well.
"We almost doubled our [ratings] in DVR numbers, but they weren't quite there in network television in counting those metrics. If it had been on a basic cable channel, it could still be on."
We'll never know for sure, but the good news for Constantine fans is that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as the occult detective on The CW's Arrow.
"It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series," Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim said of the special episode, set to air next month in the US and UK.
