Gillian Anderson has spoken about the upcoming The X-Files reboot.

The iconic science-fiction series is being brought back by Black Panther and Sinners director Ryan Coogler, fronted by a new and diverse cast.

Given that Agent Dana Scully was a star-making role for the actor, it's no surprise the new series was brought up during her appearance on today's This Morning.

When initially asked by co-host Cat Deeley if she could ask an X-Files question, Gillian actually denied the request.

However, fellow host Ben Shephard then jumped in and said he'd been listening to a podcast interview with Coogler, where the director said he'd spoken to Gillian about it.

Unable to completely move away from the subject, she said: "I have spoken to him, and what I said was, 'If anyone were to do it, I think you would be the perfect person', and 'Best of luck, best of luck. Call me.'

Ben excitedly said "Gillian's in!" as the actor admitted: "This is all that's gonna be written about, this is all that anyone's gonna talk about."

The star was on This Morning to talk about her new film The Salt Path, alongside Raynor Winn, whose real-life story became a bestselling novel and now this big-screen release.
