Gillian Anderson may have very publicly walked away from both The X-Files and American Gods, but she's most definitely not hunting for work.
Netflix has snapped up Gillian in order to put her considerable acting talents towards Sex Education, which we can assure you is an upcoming series and not anything creepy.
In Sex Education, Gillian will play a sex therapist whose son (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children star Asa Butterfield) puts her expertise to use solving problems in an ad-hoc sex therapy clinic set up in his school.
The series comes from writer Laurie Nunn, of the upcoming feature drama The Summer House, and will be directed for Netflix by Ben Taylor (Catastrophe and Cuckoo).
Gillian has experience playing a therapist, having counselled the serial-killing title character in Hannibal. Let's hope this gig involves involves less blood splatter…
The actress's schedule eased up considerably recently, after walking away from her role as the goddess Media in American Gods once her frequent collaborator Bryan Fuller quit the series.

She has also vowed to stop playing Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files following its most recent season, which she hasn't been shy in criticising. As a result, Fox in the US has indicated that it has "no plan" to make any more of The X-FIles.
Her new series Sex Education begins production for Netflix in the UK this spring. Also coming up for Gillian is the feature comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, which hits cinemas in the US on August 3, 2018 and arrives in the UK a week later on August 10.
