Constantine star Matt Ryan is "confident" that the show will be renewed for a second season.

The NBC series recently had its first season capped at 13 episodes, but the actor believes that the show still has a future.

He told Blastr: "I am confident and I'm hopeful. There is a huge fanbase for the comics out there, and I don't really read press myself, but I'm on Twitter, and the feedback we've been getting from the fans is the show is getting stronger, finding our feet, and moving forward.

"The show and what we have set up has such potential, and has such potential for Warner Bros. and DC and NBC. I'm a fan of the comics, and… I'm not done with this character. I don't feel like I've fleshed him out completely yet."

Constantine's showrunner Daniel Cerone has also insisted that the NBC series has not been cancelled, saying that the network wants the show to succeed.

Meanwhile, Ryan recently revealed to Digital Spy that he thinks the comic adaptation hit its stride with episode four, 'A Feast of Friends'.

"Sometimes it takes a little bit of time for a show to find its feet," he said. "Even though the first few episodes were great, I think that is the one where we really hit our stride."

Constantine airs on Fridays at 10/9c in the US, with new episodes debuting on Saturdays in the UK via Amazon Prime Instant Video.
