Emmett Scanlan has revealed that he auditioned for the lead role in Constantine.

The actor, who plays Jim Corrigan aka The Spectre on the NBC show, was beaten to the role of John Constantine by Matt Ryan.

Speaking to In The Fleshdom, Scanlan said: "I tested for [John] Constantine in February. And looking at how Matt [Ryan] does it, the better man won out."

He added: "But David Goyer and Daniel Cerone have never forgotten about me. Felicia Fasano too. I owe them a lot for bringing me back."

Speaking about the show, he added: "I love working on that show, living in that dark world. Gorgeous beautiful people, beautiful souls and the show's potential, where it can go, is the sky."

Speaking about becoming the first person to have played Corrigan, Scanlan said: "Technically I'm the best and the worst Jim Corrigan has ever been."
