Succession star Holly Hunter has landed a lead role in the new Star Trek series, (as reported by Variety).
Hunter, who played Rhea Jarrell in the HBO drama show, will take on another authoritative role in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Hunter will play the captain and chancellor of the Academy, whose role will entail presiding over the faculty as well as a new class.

Under her guidance, the Starfleet cadets will learn to navigate the galaxy in the 32nd century. Star Trek: Discovery showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are in charge of the spin-off series, which will began shooting this summer.
"It feels like we've spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius," said Kurtzman and Landau.
"To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across the board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us, and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek."

An official synopsis for the series reads: "Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, [students] will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself."
The new series boasts the largest contiguous set ever constructed for any of the Star Trek series, as it will feature a two-story central academic atrium that will include an amphitheatre, classrooms, a mess hall and a idyllic walkway lined with trees.
Succession aired on HBO in the US, and is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1-4 are now available on Paramount+.
