The Boy Wonder and his mentor the Dark Knight finally have the collision fans have been waiting for in the trailer for Titans' season one finale.

Ever since DC released the first footage of the Teen Titans live-action series, fans have been demanding answers about what led the Caped Crusader's one-time ward Robin (Brenton Thwaites) to angrily scream "f**k Batman" in the heat of battle. It's time for those answers:

The season finale, appropriately titled 'Dick Grayson', sees Robin approached by an injured Jason Todd (Curran Walters) and warned that Batman has gone off the rails in Gotham City since the murder of Commissioner Gordon.

Viewers then get to see Batman hunting down and killing his enemies – including The Joker – as proof that he'd broken his oath to never sink to the depths of the criminals he'd hunted.

The stage is set for an epic battle between mentor and protege when Robin leads the Titans into Gotham City intent on taking Batman down once and for all, before he can hurt anyone else.

"He has to be stopped. There's no saving him anymore," Robin is told.

Intriguingly, Batman's face isn't actually shown in the trailer so it's not clear who is playing him in Titans – or if there's a twist in relation to someone other than Bruce Wayne in that Batman suit somehow.

Titans' season one finale will premiere on the DC Universe streaming service next Friday (December 21), with more episodes on the way. The series comes to Netflix in the UK on Friday, January 11.
