The Great British Bake Off may seem like the fluffiest TV show on our screens, but with all those cheeky innuendos and the addition of Noel Fielding's naughtiness it actually features its fair share of scandalous behaviour.
Here are some of the most surprisingly shocking.
1. The squirrel and his, er, nuts
When you think about nuts, you think of cashews. Almonds. A pecan or two. And if you don't... Well, you should get your mind out of the gutter – this is a show about CAKES, for goodness sake.
But when the much-loved Bake Off squirrel finally decided to flash its testicles to the nation, the internet collectively choked into its teacakes.
2. #Bingate
Who knew a baked Alaska could cause so much controversy, as series five contestant Diana Beard was accused of "sabotage" when she took fellow baker Iain Watters' ice cream out of the freezer.
Iain's Alaska turned to gloop and he ended up chucking the whole thing in the rubbish and walking out of the tent to cool off (sorry).
What to Read Next
We're not exaggerating when we say that this BLEW THE EFF UP on social media. Viewers were calling for Diane to be "arrested", she was momentarily renamed the "ice-cream melting Supervillain" on the show's Wikipedia page and Buzzfeed even ended up writing a viral news article entitled: "A Cake Scandal Hit 'The Great British Bake Off' And The British Are Angry."
We bloody well were.
To add insult to injury, Diane handed a beautiful Alaska swan to Mary and Paul, whilst Iain was forced to present his bin to the judges – as that's where his cake mixture ended up. He was ultimately sent home, and you probably don't need us to tell you how that went down. The whole thing even found its way on to Newsnight.
Meanwhile, Paul Hollywood and Sue Perkins ended up having to respond to the angry mob on Twitter. Better them than us.
3. The case of the missing custard
Dentist Deborah Manger unwittingly stole fellow contestant Howard Middleton's custard, but soon confessed her crime to Sue. It was like an episode of CSI, but with trifles. Funny how some milk and eggs can bring out the worst in people.
4. The move to Channel 4
The big channel switcheroo sent shockwaves through the nation, particularly because it resulted in Queen Mary's exit. How was the show ever going to continue without its queen?!
Mel and Sue decided that loyalty came first and quickly followed out the back of the tent. Which leads us to...
5. Paul Hollywood
As the world was going into meltdown over the Great British Channel Hop (anyone else think this was a slight overreaction, in hindsight?), Paul added fuel to the fire by staying right where he was and doing the show as normal.
While he was accused of following the money, we think it was a smart move to have some continuation from the original line-up. And, you know, we need someone that's prepared to make the contestants cry. Ahem.
6. Trip to Tesco?
Series five's Enwezor Nzegwu only went and used SHOP-BOUGHT icing. We don't think we need to elaborate further.
7. Ruby Tandoh
Ruby Tandoh was a woman. And she made it to the final, God forbid.
Viewers delighted in accusing her of having an affair with Paul Hollywood, suggesting that she had only made it to the end of the competition because the flirty host fancied her. (A media narrative that would play out again with Candice Brown and no doubt again next season with another unsuspecting contestant.)
Unfortunately she was attacked publicly on Twitter, but got her own back when she shut everyone down with tweets announcing that, first, she is a lesbian, and second: "For those who thought I fancied Paul Hollywood or that I'd ever bang him to get ahead – JOKE'S ON YOU, YOU MASSIVE S**TTING MISOGYNISTS."
You tell 'em.
8. Insta-scandal
Steven Carter-Bailey, having dazzled everyone with his creations and won Star Baker for the first two weeks in a row, caused a bit of a stir in series eight when his Instagram account was unearthed a few episodes in.
We all know how much Twitter loves a 'fix' claim, and his Insta just happened to be bursting with showstopper-worthy cakes, which had everyone thinking that he might just have been a secret professional.
9. When Noel Fielding played hide-and-seek
In the fridge. Of course.
He might be an acquired taste, but we really think that Noel's GBBO casting was geeenius (as Vince Noir AKA Booshy Noel would say).
But viewers were furious to see him climbing into one of the Smegs during the 2017 series. Yup, as part of a prank on co-host Sandi Toksvig, Noel decided that it was the perfect hiding place.
The whole thing sparked numerous complaints to Ofcom – because, you know, impressionable children were watching and all that – but, in the end, the show was cleared and all was right in the world again.
Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.
