An unnamed Strictly Come Dancing star has been arrested following allegations of rape and intimate image abuse.

According to The Sun, the male suspect was arrested earlier this week and is being questioned by the Metropolitan Police.

"On Friday, August 22, officers arrested a man on suspicion of rape and non-consensual intimate image abuse," a spokesperson for the Met told the publication.

"This is a joint investigation with Hertfordshire Constabulary and while the investigation is in its early stages, we urge anyone with any information to come forward to us."

The police inquiry is reportedly not related to the current series of the dancing competition. The alleged rape victim is being supported by specialist officers.

A BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”

The arrest comes after a recent allegation about "drug-related offences" on Strictly, which is also being looked into by the Met.

"Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed," it said in a statement (via BBC News).

The Met's involvement follows the BBC's investigation earlier this month, which assessed claims of drug use by two unnamed stars of the show.

"We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us," the BBC said at the time. "We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
