Britain’s Got Talent star Simon Cowell ignored a rule from the show as he hit the Golden Buzzer once more.

The ITV reality show returned on Saturday (March 22) with its latest set of auditions as a bunch of hopefuls aimed for a place at the Royal Variety Performance and a juicy cash prize.

For the truly perfect acts, a Golden Buzzer is hit as they are guaranteed straight passage to the live rounds, though only five spots – one for each judge and hosts Ant & Dec – are allocated via the buzzer.

Despite pressing the Golden Buzzer in the season’s first episode for singer Vinnie McKee, Simon ignored the rules and delivered another tonight, with charity singing group Electric Umbrella the latest act to achieve the honour.

“I feel a wave of goodness,” said Simon following the display, which saw the group perform an original song. “Everything about this was good – what it stands for, what you did. For me, this was like being in a movie. It was just spectacular.”

“The only, I suppose, downside to this is that I don’t have any Golden Buzzers left. However…” he added as he pressed the buzzer, with the stage being covered in golden confetti as the audience gave a standing ovation.

Simon wasn’t the only one to laud Electric Umbrella, with fellow judge Bruno Tonioli describing the performance as “heart-warming” and “inspiring.” Amanda Holden remarked that “love and friendship” was “pouring” from the stage, whilst Alesha Dixon called the group “amazing”.
