Married At First Sight UK star Ella Morgan wore a dress with the colours of the trans flag to the Pride of Britain Awards this week in support of trans people.

Ella recently made history by becoming Married At First Sight UK's first-ever transgender contestant. She wore the trans flag-coloured dress to the Pride of Britain Awards, which honours British people who have acted bravely in difficult situations.

Ella wore the dress in support of trans people after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received criticism for his comments at last week's Conservative Party Conference.

At the conference, Sunak said that the British public was being "bullied" into accepting that people "can be any sex they want to be." Sunak then said: "A man is a man, and a woman is a woman, that’s just common sense."

The comments drew a round of applause from the conference, although the remarks have been widely condemned by activists, allies, and MPs.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Pride of Britain Awards (reported here via Pink News), Ella opened up about making history on the show and Sunak's comments.

"I knew, coming onto the show, being the first trans bride, it would be a big deal, but I didn’t expect it to blow up as positively as it has," Ella said.

"I have had a bit of hate but I feel like, with what’s going on right now, I don’t really want to talk – because I have been asked in interviews about the whole Rishi thing and what’s going on with the Government. I thought, ‘I won’t say anything, I’ll just wear a dress with the trans flag on.'"
