Be very x-cited - the new X-Men TV series will welcome some of its iconic characters to the small screen.

Although there's no word yet on who exactly will feature, Dana Walden from broadcaster Fox has teased some familiar faces.

Speaking to SlashFilm, Walden has promised that the drama will include "some iconic characters", but will mostly focus on a new, separate family.

"It's about an average family who encounters this extraordinary world and children who have mutant powers and they end up on the run, so it's a little bit underground railroad in terms of a storytelling spine," she said.

Originally pitched as a series about the villainous Hellfire Club, creator Matt Nix is now taking the show in a different direction so it can spend more time on developing the characters.

So while we don't know which mutants will be involved, or when in 2017 the pilot will be aired, we are sure that this latest venture into the X-Men universe is going to be epic.
