Ncuti Gatwa has spoken about his exit from Doctor Who.

The Sex Education actor left the BBC science-fiction series after his second season in the finale episode 'The Reality War' in a surprising twist that saw Billie Piper taking his place.

In an interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Gatwa said that playing Doctor was quite physically demanding.

"I'm getting old, and my body was tired. My body was tired," he said. "I've now just started doing some ballet, so I'm making really great decisions here."

He added: "It's the most amazing job in the world. It's a job that any actor would dream of and, because it's so good, it's strenuous. It takes a lot out of you, physically, emotionally, mentally, and so it was time."

Gatwa also said "never say never" when asked about the possibility of a return one day.

Elsewhere in Gatwa's interview yesterday, he said that he stepped away from being the UK's spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest as he was "very busy" with doing press.

"It all panned out very interestingly. I pulled out of it a long time before it was announced," he shared.
