Bestselling author Kathy Lette has teased a team-up between Taskmaster star Sally Phillips and her Holby City actor son Jules Robertson.

Appearing on Best's Suddenly Single podcast, the author opened up about her son, who is best known for playing Jason Haynes on Holby City between 2016 and 2022.

Speaking about Robertson, Lette told host Siobhan Wykes that she didn't write about his autism diagnosis until her son was older, saying: "The hardest thing I ever wrote about was having an autistic child."

She continued: "I didn’t write about Jules being autistic until he was 21 but it was such a relief to write about it and how it had affected my relationship."

Robertson gave his mother permission to write about him according to Lette, who said: "I asked him and he read what I was writing and said 'it’s always good to shine a light in a dark area, mum'."

"I’ll probably write a vehicle for him," Lette said of her son. "My friend Sally Phillips has a son with Down’s Syndrome so we might get together and write a vehicle for our kids so they’ve got something to star in."

Elsewhere in the interview, the author touched on why she became a writer, saying: "All writers write because it’s cheaper than therapy. If I wasn’t an author I’d be lying on some shrink’s couch paying to make them laugh."

She added: "If I have any gift as a writer at all, it’s putting into words what women are thinking but not necessarily saying out loud, and writing how women talk when there are no men around."
