House of the Dragon season three has officially started production.
The news was confirmed in a video posted to the show's Instagram page, in which we see star Emma D'Arcy holding a clapperboard while wearing their Rhaenyra Targaryen costume, saying: "House of the Dragon is back in production. Here we are on day one of season three."
The Game of Thrones prequel series was renewed for a third season last summer, before season two had even been released.
"We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart," the announcement from HBO's Francesca Orsi read.
"We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three."

As well as returning stars such as D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), it was recently confirmed that Happy Valley star James Norton has joined the cast of season three.
The actor will be playing Ormund Hightower, the Lord of Oldtown, whose description reads: "He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King's Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra."
House of the Dragon has also been renewed for a fourth season, which will officially conclude the series.

Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal confirmed the news during a press conference for last year, where he also spoke about the conclusion of season two and how book fans were left disappointed that the Battle of the Gullet wasn’t shown.
"We just wanted to have the time, the space to do that at a level that is going to excite and satisfy the fans and in the way it’s deserved. I know everybody wants this to come out every summer," he said.
"It’s just that the show is so complex that we’re really making multiple feature films every season. So I apologise for the wait, but I will just say if Rook’s Rest and The Red Sowing are any indication, we’re gonna pull off a hell of a win with the Battle the Gullet in the future."
House of the Dragon airs on HBO and Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
