House of the Dragon has added Happy Valley star James Norton to its season 3 cast.
The Game of Thrones prequel series was renewed for a third instalment last summer, before season two had even been released.
"We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three," read the announcement from HBO's Francesca Orsi.

According to Variety, season three will see Norton joining the cast as Ormund Hightower, the Lord of Oldtown. The character has already been referenced during season two, but has yet to appear onscreen.
Ormund is connected to various characters within the series; including his uncle Otto (Rhys Ifans), and cousins Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne (Freddie Fox). The official character description states: "He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King's Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy)."

During a press conference in August, Condal addressed how many episodes season three would have.
"I haven't had discussions with HBO about it. I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from season two on," he said.
The showrunner also revealed that House of the Dragon will conclude after its fourth season. However, the show's future beyond season three is yet to be formally confirmed.
House of the Dragon seasons 1-2 air on Sky Atlantic and stream on NOW in the UK. In the US, it airs on HBO and streams on Max.
