Ghosts star Kiell Smith-Bynoe has shared details of a storyline he’d “love to do” if the show ever returned.

The BBC sitcom, which ran for five seasons in total, followed Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike Cooper (Smith-Bynoe), a married couple who inherit a vast but crumbling mansion. Following an accident, Alison discovers that the house is haunted, and that she can also speak to the ghosts.

Though the show may have concluded in 2023, fans have retained hope that it could be revived by the BBC, with Smith-Bynoe sharing that a storyline from the American adaptation would be at the top of his list should he reprise his role.

“[The] American [version of] Ghosts did an episode where the husband gets possessed by the other ghosts and I’d love to do that,” shared the star in an interview with Metro. “That’d be fun. I’d love that if you, [the BBC] are listening.”

Smith-Bynoe continued by revealing that he was in touch with Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays his counterpart on the American version of the show, sharing that he would jump at the chance of a crossover appearance.

“Now we just have more to share because they’re doing similar episodes that have similar storylines, things like that,” said the star, who has also appeared in Taskmaster. “So hopefully there’ll be a crossover at some point. I’d love that.

“But even just to meet them. I met Brandon [Scott Jones], who plays [Captain Isaac Higgintoot] and he came to see The Government Inspector when me and [creator] Martha [Howe-Douglas] were doing that, so there was a little bit of a link up there.”

Whilst it’s uncertain if Ghosts will return, Smith-Bynoe did reflect on the legacy of the show, sharing that he was warmed by its appeal to several generations, saying: “It’s really got a multi-generational fan base. Every time someone says that they enjoy the show, it really fills me with joy.

“When you’re in this cold old house in the middle of January shooting this thing, not quite sure exactly when it’s going to go out and if that joke will resonate, and then people are still quoting it years after you’ve done it. It’s a really great feeling.”
