Missing You's Richard Armitage has hinted at a crushing ending for Harlan Coben's latest mystery thriller.
During an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the Fool Me Once actor said: "The end of the book is one of those things where you feel like the rug's been yanked from underneath you."
He added: "I think building the story through loss – the love that's been lost from Kat's father, the loss of her fiancé and her quest to find it and reconnect with it – that's the thing that's going to stab you in the heart at the end."
Co-star Sir Lenny Henry, who plays Kat's [Rosalind Eleazar] late father Clint in the flashback, shared his hopes for viewers' reaction to the finale.
"We hope there's gonna be a lot of 'What?!' going on around the world," he said.
When talking about his role, the Three Little Birds creator said: "I loved every scene with Roz because I was being her dad. I love being a dad."

He added: "It was lovely and it was great. There are serious things in this story, don't get me wrong, but the moments with Kat and Clint were moments to shore up and make the audience understand that this is a loving relationship and he would do anything for her, and that's going to pay off in a big way.

Armitage, who has starred in a number of Coben's shows in the past including Stay Close and The Stranger, said his role in Missing You gave him a chance to do something different to the previous Coben works.
"[I'm a] police officer. I haven't played a character of authority before. I've always been chasing or chasing information in the story whereas this character is very much holding on to the secrets of the past," he said.
"He wants to keep the ground firm. He wants to keep everything buried and he's experiencing Kat Donovan, who wants to dig deep, and he's trying to hold on to that."
Armitage went on to share his hopes for starring in another Coben series.
"I was asked to interview Harlan when he released his penultimate book which was called 'I Will Find You'," explained the star.
"I remember sitting down to read it and thinking, 'Please don't let this be a role that I want to play because I don't think they'll let me play another one', and of course, within the first 10 pages you're like, 'This is amazing'.
"I would love to see that adapted. I don't think they'd let me be in it, but such a great story."
Missing You arrives on Netflix on January 1, 2025.
