The Sims 4 has rolled out a free update bringing the Burglar back to the franchise.

The Burglar NPC featured in the first three core games of the series, but has not been included in The Sims 4 until now.

EA's official blog post confirms that the Burglar, named Robin Banks here, will sneak into your Sims' homes at night and try to steal anything valuable before escaping. She can be arrested if the police is called in time.

Sims can install a "state-of-the-art" burglar alarm with upgradable features for extra security.

"Handy Sims can upgrade the alarm to do all sorts of useful things: automatically call the police, reduce the chance of it breaking, or even zap the Burglar, forcing her to drop the stolen goods," the post adds.

What to Read Next

If a Sim wants to take matters into their own hands, they can also get into a fight with the Burglar.

And depending on what expansions you have installed, you may see unique interactions. Examples include dogs chasing the Burglar out, spellcasters using confusion or transformation spells, and scientists using a freeze ray.

Vampire and werewolf Sims will have interactions of their own with the Burglar NPC as well.

There's also the option to befriend Robin Banks and add her to your household.

"If you do this, another Burglar will generate to take Robin’s place, or a Sim that already exists in the world with the right traits who is unplayed can fulfill the role. New burglars will spawn with the same traits but a random appearance and name," the post explains.

Elsewhere, a new lot challenge named 'Heist Havoc' increases the chances of the Burglar targeting your lot, as well as making any alarms more unreliable.

"Burglar visits are rare because we want those moments to stand out. But for those of you who thrive on chaos, we’ve got you covered with the new Lot Challenge," the blog adds.

The update comes ahead of the release of the game's next expansion, Businesses & Hobbies.

The new pack will let Sims own and run small businesses and will introduce two new skills: Tattooing and Pottery. The new Tattoo Paint Mode offers more freedom when designing tattoo art, and a new pottery wheel and kiln can be used to create various ceramic pieces.

The expansion is available to pre-order now and will launch on March 6 on the usual platforms.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox.
