Neighbours star, Madeleine West, has shared her terrifying experience after being involved in a horror bus accident 18 years ago.

The Dee Bliss actress posted an image on her Instagram of her after the accident – where she was hit by a bus – and her caption explained how she has managed to deal with the psychological effects as well as the steps she has taken to heal.

"Thank you....I know this looks like a failed audition for The Mummy or I've contracted a nasty case of leprosy, but it's just a very vulnerable image attached to a very heartfelt 'thanks'.

"I wrote this week about being hit by a bus 18 years ago, and the response sent my heart ricocheting about my chest like a tennis ball between Nadal and Federer.

"To those who have lent support and simple kindness expecting nothing in return, the words to express my gratitude have not yet been coined. Beyond just…'Thank you'.

"Your generosity has compelled me to do something I've not had the guts to, til now... you see, to this day, I have a #phobia about buses. Any #bus passing by me at speed stops me in my tracks. I freeze..."

She also explained that she has had therapy to help deal with the trauma from the crash, but felt she needed to take things a step further in order to heal.

"SO... today I've booked a flight to #Sydney. Destination: Oxford Street. I'm going to find that same bus-stop, and stand beside it watching the buses roll by. There I will stay til the #fear, the #panic, the fight or flight response fades.

"It might take all day. But I know when I walk away it will be with a new gratitude for all that has passed, and more importantly, all that is yet to come."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
