Home and Away: John takes ownership of his mistakes

With the surf competition under way, Irene is given the task of winning over Gus, the gold sponsor who owns the hardware store, who wanted to sue the Surf Club. Irene discovers the gruff Gus has never even been to Summer Bay, as this was all just a tax write-off.

After a day of annoying Irene by trying to impress her, Gus goes off on John, calling him an idiot and a fool for thinking that a guy like him could ever get a girl like that. Irene sticks up for John.

Following this, John says a few words, taking responsibility for needing the Surf Comp to save the club. He goes on to praise Roo, Dean and particularly Alf. John invites everyone back to his house for a BBQ – it's the least he can do.

Meanwhile, Justin is a no-show for his heat and Leah goes searching for him. He's at home having double dosed on his medication and having double vision. Leah goes to check on Justin and discovers him on the ground. Being protective, Leah tries to get him to go to the hospital. In frustration, Justin yells at her to back off, before quickly apologising.

Leah tells Justin that she understands he's in pain, but wants to know what happened. Justin admits that he double dosed so he could compete in the competition. Leah tries to get him to go to the doctor, but Justin convinces her that he doesn't need anything other than her. Leah keeps pushing and Justin snaps again, which does eventually prompt Justin to give Leah permission to organise a doctor visit.

Elsewhere, Jai cheers on from the sidelines as Dean rips it up on some big waves. Amber and Tane talk about how they're both not playing the field anymore. Tane laughs, but assures Amber that he and Ziggy are solid.

Later, Amber watches as Dean spots Ziggy and Tane kiss. Amber tries to reach out to Dean and offers to go to surf comps, but Dean pushes down the idea to do it with her. Eventually, having smashed their respective competition away, Dean and Ziggy win the king and queen of the surf competition and the prizes.

While accepting their awards, the two seem cosy enough for Amber to question how solid they actually are. Following on from Amber's comment, Tane point blank asks Ziggy why her and Dean aren't together anymore.

Also today, Marilyn is going full throttle, bossing everyone around with her new power. Roo and Alf realise they need to stop this monster so they steal her whistle from her. Marilyn offers to pay for the "lost" whistle and Roo lets her in on what happened.
