Home and Away: Ryder tries to make amends

Ryder tells Chloe that he quit because Mac wouldn't hire her back. Chloe is upset that Ryder would give up his job and storms off when Ryder asks what she wants from him. Roo gives him some sage advice – quitting isn't the same as saying sorry.

Taking this advice on board, Ryder apologises to Chloe, who also says sorry for how she reacted. The two reunite and are back on the same page. Chloe tells him she no longer needs to take things slowly. The two kiss and head into her room.

At the same time, Mac tells Ziggy that she took her advice on board and fired Chloe. Ziggy feels that her message might have been distorted somewhat. When pushed, Mac tells her that she's just getting her life back on track. After discovering Ryder has also left, Ziggy pushes Mac to call them up and rehire them. Mac gives a firm no and tells her not to give her a lecture.

Dean and Ziggy both feel Mac shouldn't be working, but with the restaurant severely understaffed, they rally to support her. Mac accepts their help and gets them to work as she looks at hiring some temps for tomorrow's big day with the surf comp. Mac is trying to offer Ryder back his job, but can't go so far as offering Chloe back hers.

Meanwhile, Leah finds John and tries to get involved with tracking down Susie, but he's still too emotional and hurt. Leah has to back off when he gets upset. John later apologises to Leah and tells her that he's happy for her to be chasing this, but he can't do it as it's just too painful.

Leah enquires about Justin's plans for the competition. He's excited to get it going, but when Leah moves away, Justin's pain flairs and he takes another painkiller.

The next day, Leah points out that he doesn't look so good and suggests another painkiller. Although he says he shouldn't have any more, he leaves to go back home to take more.

Elsewhere, Dean is nervous when Jai pushes to go to Movie World, feeling the pressure to win the comp. The comp is in full force as Jai cheers Dean on from the sidelines. Following on from her conversation with Mac, Amber is nervous about her relationship with Dean, worrying that she will always be second to Ziggy.

Later, Ziggy tells Amber that she can't believe it's taken this long for him to compete, seeing as they had always talked about competing in comps. This further worries Amber.

Also today, setting up for the surf comp, everything is going smoothly, until Roo receives news that a martial has dropped out. She ends up settling for a reluctant Marilyn, who eventually agrees to helping them.

Roo tells Marilyn that all she needs to do is get the contestants to the marshalling area before their heats or else they will be disqualified. After seeing her struggling to get attention, Alf pushes her to be more vocal on the loud-speaker. Taking this on board, Marilyn quickly adopts a bit of attitude.
