Home and Away: Ryder faces a difficult dilemma

Ryder and Chloe can't pull away from one another, taking any opportunity to lock lips – the store room, the front of the bait shop, Chloe's front door – nothing is off limits for the love birds. Their romance is all too much for some, but that quickly changes when Mac sends Ryder a text, asking him to come and see her.

When Mac offers Ryder an opportunity to be her second-in-charge, he jumps at the chance, but it comes with a catch – fire Chloe to prove himself as a worthy assistant manager. Ryder pleads the case that Chloe is a good worker, but Mac can't see why she needs to stay on, reminding him that it was he who didn't want Chloe employed in the first place.

Ryder realises this is something personal and not a good idea because Chloe has proved herself as a great worker and hospitality suits her perfectly. Alf doesn't have the answer but either way, offers the sage advice of needing to deal with the consequences.

Chloe congratulates Ryder on his promotion and just when he tries to find a way to tell Chloe she has been fired, he backs out, leaving him in a difficult situation.

Meanwhile, despite Ziggy and Dean's best efforts to look after Mac, she's still not accepting the help with gratitude as much as they'd expect. Mac can't help but ask about how Ari is, but Ziggy reminds her how unhealthy it is to keep asking about him.

Mac finally allows herself to admit how horrible it is to try and move past it all when Ari gets to be so happy and in love with his new life. But Ziggy finds it increasingly hard to remain empathetic with her. It's the kind of tough-love Mac needed, and she apologises to Ziggy for being ungrateful.

Elsewhere, in the middle of this, Dean is trying to help Roo with the organising of the surf comp, which proves more difficult than he initially imagined. He arrives home with beers in hand to a pleasantly surprised Amber. Jai shares his day's successes at school and the little family are the picture of happiness.

But there's just something about Dean's closeness with Ziggy that just doesn't sit right with Amber. When Dean discusses doing something special for Jai, Amber's maternal emotions set in and she professes her love to a stunned Dean. He doesn't respond and instead stands bewildered. Before either of them can react properly, Roo barrels in and the moment is lost.

Also today, an exuberant Roo explains to John how many entrants they have entering the competition within the past 24 hours, but he's less than enthusiastic. When Roo quizzes him if everything's okay, he just brushes it off but Marilyn asks about how he went with the real estate agent and it's revealed he's selling the house. Roo is devastated for him.
