"It's a sad time for his co-stars as he was a popular cast member on set and had a great relationship with the other younger cast and his on-screen family, the Osbornes."

A Hollyoaks spokesperson declined to comment when approached by Digital Spy about Behan's departure.

Prior to his current role, Behan played the guest part of Tre Davenport on Hollyoaks for a brief stint in 2010.

Although the actor made limited appearances as a child cast member in his early years on Hollyoaks, he grew up on the show and went on to play roles in more adult storylines.

These included Charlie Dean's involvement in County Lines drug dealing, which led to him falsely taking the blame for the fatal stabbing of villain Jordan Price at The Hutch in 2020.

In 2023, Behan received high praise from fans for his performances in Charlie's mental health storyline, which culminated in the teen character making a suicide attempt.

More recently, fans had noticed Charlie appearing less frequently in the build-up to the show's upcoming changes – including on-screen absences during the ongoing Frankie and JJ sibling sexual abuse plot.

Hollyoaks is currently undergoing a radical cast overhaul as part of the show being downsized to three episodes per week in the autumn.

The week after – from Monday, September 16 – features a one-year time jump to explain certain cast departures and mark the beginning of a new era.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
