Hollyoaks star Tamara Wall has explained how Grace Black's return came about.

It was revealed earlier this month Tamara had returned to filming – less than a year after exiting her role as Grace.

A new trailer for the show showed Grace being visited in prison by Freddie Roscoe, who recently made his own comeback to the village.

Explaining how her return came about, Tamara told Digital Spy: "I was always hoping that I would be coming back. I was sort of tapping my fingers for a little bit.

"And then I got a phone call saying that the storylines have changed and there may be an opportunity to bring Grace back. I was like, 'Oh my God, please'.

"They were basically saying that they were desperate to get me back but were just trying to work out how they would get me back with the storylines because obviously Grace is stuck in prison.

"When Charlie [Clapham] came back, they were like, 'Oh, who can we put Freddie with to make the connection back to the village?'. Apparently all the scriptwriters were like, 'Grace!'. So thanks, Charlie Clapham!"

The teaser clips in the spring trailer showed Grace and Freddie seemingly concocting a plan together, and Tamara has shared more about what's ahead.

"Basically, Fraser, who was Grace's dad from many, many moons ago, has left a stash of what we think is money somewhere and he's left Grace little clues.

"Freddie's found this treasure hunt and we are going back and forth with each other to try and work out where he's left this money, so that when Grace does escape, she has got a big wad of cash to run away with. But it doesn't really go to plan."

Discussing how her alter-ego is getting on in prison, Tamara added: "She's taken over the whole prison, hasn't she? She is shafting money to all the prison guards so that she gets a nice cell and a mirror and a phone.

"She also doesn't have to have visiting times with all the other people. She gets her own private meetings. I think she's had a lovely old time, to be honest, but she has been planning to get out.

"I think Grace would never assume that she was ever going to be stuck in there for a long time. It's Grace Black. She's always got a plan somewhere up her sleeve."

There's also good news for fans as Tamara has confirmed that Grace is back for the foreseeable.

When asked if this was a permanent return for Grace, she said: "Yes, yes, yes it is! I feel very excited."
