Hollyoaks star shares goodbye message to fans following shock exit

Hollyoaks' Olly Rhodes has posted a farewell message on his Instagram following his surprising exit from the soap.

Rhodes played the role of the villainous Joseph Holmes on the show for five months. His final episode aired early on Monday (October 10) on All 4 before its TV broadcast the same evening.

In a joint post with the official Hollyoaks account, Rhodes said: "Hey guys It’s Olly. I play Joseph - or at least I did play Joseph as that is it. He’s done. I hope you’ve enjoyed watching him on your screens."

He continued: "Thank you so much for watching and supporting on me on this journey. And keep watching Hollyoaks, they’ve got a lot more exciting stories coming up and that’s me Olly gone. Bye bye."

Joseph had quickly become a villain on the soap after he was introduced as Vicky's boyfriend back in June. Joseph then framed DeMarcus Westwood for the murder of Saul Reeves, leading to DeMarcus being locked up in young offenders for weeks for a crime he didn't commit.

However, Joseph's girlfriend Vicky exposed him after releasing evidence that proved he was lying to everyone. Joseph was then arrested at long last while DeMarcus was finally able to walk free.

This evening's post-credits scene showed Joseph breaking down in his prison cell, while Zoe told Grace that Joseph had finally confessed to his crimes. That dramatic conclusion to a tense storyline brings Rhodes' involvement on Hollyoaks to a satisfying end.

The show was Rhodes' first big break in acting, with his only other acting credit coming in the form of a single episode of The Last Kingdom.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
