Hollyoaks star Nadine Mulkerrin has called for her character Cleo McQueen to reunite with ex Joel Dexter on the show.

In a new interview with Inside Soap, the actor said "it would be great" if they could work things out and get back together, even though she's finding it challenging to have to keep herself socially distanced from real-life fiancé Rory Douglas-Speed (who plays Joel) during scenes.

"It remains very much up for debate, because Cleo and Joel don't live in the same household, so they would have to keep their distance on screen. I hope they come up with a way to make it happen," Mulkerrin told the publication. "It's really hard acting from two metres apart."

While Joel is currently engaged to Cleo's cousin Goldie (Chelsee Healey), Hollyoaks fans have previously voiced that they'd love to see the former couple work things out – something that Mulkerrin, who has a son with Douglas-Speed, puts down to their relationship away from the cameras.

"Me and Rory often wonder if the reason our characters were so successful on screen is because the audience know we're together in real life," she laughed.

"Cleo and Joel have always had a great following, and from the messages I get, it seems people definitely still want them to get back together.

"I think they almost want it more now we're a little family... and have Reggie."
