Hollyoaks has dropped its most unlikely hint yet in the 'Who Shot Mercedes McQueen?' mystery.
All signs thus far have pointed to Liam Donovan (Jude Monk McGowan) as the culprit, since he was shown in flashback standing over Mercy's unconscious body and was briefly arrested for the shooting.
However, Monday's (November 11) first-look episode on E4 threw a curveball into the investigation when Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) of all people started acting in a very suspicious manner.
Diane managed to get fellow official suspect Grace Black (Tamara Wall) all alone to ask for quite a massive favour directly related to Mercedes' shooting.
"I need assurances you won't tell anyone what you saw the night Mercedes was shot," she asked in a sheer panic. "Can you help me or not?"
Grace walked away promising: "Don't worry, your secret's safe."

Before you go writing this off as one giant red herring, Alex Fletcher has pitched Digital Spy on why Diane should be considered a prime suspect for shooting Mercedes.
"Diane is a little bit unstable at the minute. I can't give too much away but I think she has got it in her to shoot someone, unfortunately," she teased. "I think she has been through so much recently, so why wouldn't it be her?
"Diane has been gunning for Mercedes since Harry's funeral. Mercedes has told so many lies ever since she ran over Grace. Diane now thinks that Mercedes killed Harry. Tony is not around and Diane has been left to pick up all the pieces at the funeral.
"You'll also see that someone in the village has something on Diane over what happened that night, so it's a question of how she'll get out of that one."
We imagine that certain someone might be Grace — how far will Diane be willing to go to keep her quiet?
Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
