Emmerdale actor Liam Fox has called for fans to be more aware of skin cancer safety after having surgery on his face.

The star, who played Dan Spencer on the ITV soap between 2011 and 2023, has been sharing on Instagram over the last few weeks that he had a removal operation, thanked the NHS, and pondered how the cancer developed.

Posting a photo of himself with a plaster on the left-hand side of his face, slightly above his eyebrow, Fox wrote: "Been waiting ages to have a basal cell carcinoma removed… finally sorted at the fabulous plastic surgery dept at #StHelens #Hospital.

"What an absolutely superb fun friendly team #SkinCancerAwareness #sun #lotion #NHS #NHSApp. Keep out of the sun when we get it folks."

He followed that up with another post a few days later, showing the scarring from the surgery.

Last year, Emmerdale aired a cancer storyline for Chas Dingle, as she was diagnosed with the same kind of breast cancer her mother Faith died from. She ultimately chose to have a double mastectomy to prevent a further recurrence.

Chas actor Lucy Pargeter said that lots of fans had shared their own stories with her and had sent her a lot of support for her role in the storyline.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
