Emmerdale star Claire King has opened up about her character Kim Tate's recent storyline, and how the writers compared it to US comedy-drama Succession in their initial pitch.
In her recent attempt to identify the mystery person poisoning her brandy, Kim announced her retirement at a Home Farm lunch with son Jamie, his partner Dawn Taylor, her father Will, Jai Sharma, Al Chapman and Gabby Thomas.
Her reasoning? Well, whichever guest was most excited by the news that she's quitting – and therefore, consequently requires a replacement – then it'd most likely be them who is spiking her drink.

Succession, starring the likes of Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Jeremy Strong, centres on the Roys, three wealthy siblings whose lives suddenly change when their father Logan (Brian Cox) announces that he's stepping down from the family's media company.
"I enjoyed Succession but like the Tates, they are pretty messed up in the head," King laughed during an interview with Digital Spy and other press. "When they said it was going to be like a Succession story, I was like: 'Oh great, but if that's Succession, does that mean I'm going?'

"So there was the retirement announcement and all the rest of it, but I think our picture was actually better than the original Succession picture, just saying! It was really good," she added, talking about the dramatic episode's promo image.
"It was very clever because we couldn't all be in the same room at the same time so we were all pictured individually, and then it was all photoshopped in, so it looked fantastic.

"That was very similar, actually, to the lunch party we did, because we're only allowed four cast members on set at one point. So with seven people actually in the room, we had to have four people socially distanced apart and then in between there were photos on lollipop sticks that we had to act to while the other three members of the cast were delivering their lines from another room.
"So it was a bit of a tricky one to do at the time, and it took a long time but I thought the director did an amazing job. I mean it took for ages and ages, but it was seamless. I thought it worked really, really well."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays. Due to Euro 2020, there are currently some schedule changes, with each week's episodes premiering on ITV Hub during the tournament.
