Tonight's episode of Emmerdale (January 7) offered a strong indication that Paddy Kirk really is the father of Mandy Dingle's son Vinny, but viewers aren't necessarily accepting that one just yet.

Absolute pandemonium broke out at Marlon and Jessie's lowkey wedding when returnee Mandy arrived at the church to drop a bombshell on Paddy – but it looks like Paddy (and viewers) will have to wait and see what that is, as instead Mandy got into a catfight with Paddy's current partner Chas instead.

After the ceremony, Marlon then learned that Mandy has a 16-year-old son named Vinny, which is conveniently about the same number of years since Paddy and Mandy were apparently last together.

Connecting the dots, Marlon makes the assumption that Vinny must be Paddy's son, and while some viewers are happy to go along with this, others think that a bombshell like that might be a little too obvious to be true.

So, is Vinny really Paddy's son, or is this all just drawing our attention away from the real bombshell? Mandy Dingle actress Lisa Riley has remained light-lipped, except to say that the twist in store is "brilliant".

Meanwhile, Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy, also made sure not to give too much away ahead of time, telling us: "[Paddy is] wet and dim, so it goes over his head, even after meeting Vinny.

"He doesn’t think anything, and I don’t know what the plans are. I think they [the writers] are parking it for now and don’t even know themselves."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
