There is a dark time ahead for EastEnders nurse Sonia Fowler after she makes the worrying discovery that she has a lump on her breast.
A storyline airing back in 2014 saw Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) discover that she was a carrier of the BRCA2 gene, which increases her chance of getting breast cancer - the disease her mother Carol previously fought.
Although Sonia has managed to avoid making any difficult decisions regarding the gene so far, she will be given a devastating reminder of the health risks she faces next week when she finds the concerning lump.
To make matters worse, Sonia makes another unpleasant discovery having learned that her partner Tina Carter has betrayed her by sleeping with Kyle's friend Soph.
Sonia reels when Soph confesses all, but it soon becomes apparent that she has bigger things on her mind when she confides in her daughter Bex that she has found a lump on her breast.
Once she has made amends with Tina, Sonia struggles to paint on a smile on their joint birthday as she anxiously awaits her doctors appointment. After seeing the doctor, Sonia then faces an even more nerve-wracking wait as she is given a referral to see a specialist.

Despite having Tina's full support, the situation eventually all gets too much for Sonia and she finds herself breaking down in Dot Branning's arms.
Sonia is then given fresh hope when she believes that her lump may have gone, but her worried loved ones encourage her to attend the follow-up appointment regardless. Will Sonia face her fears and go to the appointment? And what does the future hold for her if she does?
