Former EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas has undergone treatment in hospital.

The Anthony Moon actor shared the news on social media and explained that he had to go into A&E to seek treatment for an unknown illness.

Posting on Instagram, Matt shared an image of an "urgent referral" card that he was given by the hospital, he then added that it "looks like they're keeping me in".

Matt later revealed that he had been allowed to go home and that he'd have to return for "further tests" over the weekend.

The Instagram story reads: "I'm back home now with further tests tomorrow and Saturday. Basically, I have something wrong with my liver and it needs looking into. I feel better than I have done the last few weeks but maybe it's a delayed effect."

The actor also thanked fans for their continued support and encouragement as he continued to try and find out what was wrong with his health.

Previously, Matt played the role of Anthony on EastEnders, a distant relative of Alfie Moon (Shane Richie). Matt was on the East London-based soap from 2011 to 2012.

After appearing on Albert Square, the star went on the compete in the reality TV series Dancing on Ice, taking part in 2013.

EastEnders is continuing to air episodes via BBC iPlayer as box sets due the Euro 2020 tournament. It will continue due to schedule changes that have been made for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
