EastEnders' budding romance between Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) and Daniel Cook (guest star Ade Edmondson) has been lovely to see unfold, but the romance was recently cut short as Jean heard the news that Daniel had died.
At least, that's what Jean was led to believe.
In last night's episode (October 11), Jean and Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) attended a memorial for her friend and fellow cancer patient – but, unnoticed by her, Daniel was actually still alive and could be seen watching the mourners file out of the service.

Viewers already know that Daniel has been told his cancer has spread and is now terminal, and in the episode he explained that he arranged the fake funeral as he didn't want to put Jean through the pain of seeing him suffer.
"I just want to disappear before she falls properly in love. Save her the misery of watching me waste away in some hospice," he admitted.

"I mean, what's the point in that? This way she might remember me as some mildly charismatic heartthrob who burned brightly in her life for just a moment but changed it forever... It's better this way."
Although if she ever finds out that he isn't actually dead, Jean might disagree and say the pain of making her sit through a fake funeral was worse.
On that note, do we think Jean will find out the truth? Or is this well-intentioned deception Daniel's official send-off from the soap?
Elsewhere in last night's episode, we saw Ben Mitchell continue to blackmail Martin Fowler, only to get punched in the face (again) for his troubles.
Meanwhile, Rainie Cross proved to Kathy Beale and Stuart Highway that she didn't need drugs, but her recovery sadly took a huge setback thanks to Max Branning.
