Coronation Street boss Kate Oates has outlined her plans for Super Soap Week, revealing that the explosive set of episodes are about more than just a stunt.

Corrie ramps up the drama to new levels next week as David Platt plans to get the ultimate revenge on Kylie's killer and Peter Barlow makes a welcome return to the cobbles.

It's no secret that there'll be spectacular scenes involved somewhere along the line, but Kate told Digital Spy this week: "Because it's Super Soap Week, it's nice to have a big event within there, but I didn't necessarily want that to be the centrepiece.

"I wanted it to be about the story. And I wanted to pick up on the Kylie story. I wanted to pick up on where David would be with that."

David's shock storyline sees him planning to kill Clayton Hibbs and himself, pushing his family to breaking point as they lock him in the Bistro cellar to keep him away from the court building.

Explaining the dark turn, Kate added: "I think that it's really interesting because people like Dark David anyway. People have seen him be very dark, so we know that he has this streak within him.
