Coronation Street favourite Roy Cropper finds a new cause to campaign for this fortnight after learning that the local library is closing down.

Roy hears the disappointing news when returning an overdue book that was borrowed by his wife Hayley before her tragic death.

Immediately deciding to take action, Roy starts up a petition in protest and tries to get the other Weatherfield locals involved.

Roy's efforts soon bring him into contact with Kal's no-nonsense mother Yasmeen, who is chief librarian.

The pair end up joining forces to arrange a sit-in at the library, and it seems that the locals will once again see just what Roy is capable of once he has an issue to fight for.

Earlier this year, Coronation Street's producer Stuart Blackburn promised to explore more campaigning stories for Roy in the aftermath of Hayley's death.

He said in January: "Roy is a very powerful man on the quiet. We saw that with Tony Gordon and the developers, when he really took a stand against what he saw as an injustice.

"For the next year or two, I hope we can find other journeys for Roy which don't involve romance."

Coronation Street airs these scenes next week on ITV.
