Coronation Street's David Platt is set to have a Christmas Day clash with Max Turner.

When Christmas Day swings around, Audrey, Gail, Nick, David, Shona, Leanne, Max, Sam and Toyah sit down for lunch in the Bistro and exchange presents.

Max is overjoyed to discover a state-of-the-art editing package when he opens his gift, but his joy is short-lived as David makes a joke about Griff, the leader of an extremist gang who is currently manipulating Max by recruiting him to help spread racist propaganda.

Later on in the week, David loses his cool and tries to drag Max away when he sees him being pally with Griff at the Christmas market.

Furious that David would embarrass him in front of Griff like that, Max declares his hatred for him and announces that he's moving in with Griff, to which David starts to panic. Is everything about to get worse?

Max's story is set to reach its climax in the New Year when suspicions mount that Griff has something dangerous planned for the Weatherfield Peace Market.

Previously speaking about the storyline and its future, producer Iain Macleod said: "The story will encompass the 'traditional' recruitment techniques of extremist groups, and we'll see Max befriended in person by older, mentor-like figures that will give him a sense of loyalty and brotherhood.

"Then, later in the story, we will explore a very 21st century problem: teenagers self-radicalising through watching extreme content online.

"In the end, we wanted this to be a story about communication within families – what are the right and wrong ways to talk to younger family members who are gravitating towards extreme views?"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
